Dear students and faculty,

Good morning!

金风送序，逐梦启程。今天，我们在这里隆重举行20262027学年开学典礼暨表彰大会。首先，我代表学校，向2026级新同学表示最热烈的欢迎！向受到表彰的先进集体和个人表示由衷的祝贺！

Autumn ushers in a new journey of dreams. Today we hold the grand Opening Ceremony and Award Convocation for the 2026-2027 academic year. On behalf of the university, I warmly welcome all new students of the Class of 2026 and congratulate all award-winning teams and individuals.

同学们，今年是我国“十五五”开局之年，你们恰逢盛世、生逢其时，成长于科技迭代加速、世界深刻变革的新时代，人生的黄金期与推进中国式现代化的奋进征程同向同行。这既是难得的人生际遇，也是使命如山的必答题。站在这样一个关键节点，大家都要深入思考：大学何为？青年何为？

This year marks the launch of China’s 15th Five Year Plan. You live in a promising age of rapid technological and global change. Your prime years coincide with our nation’s drive toward Chinese modernization. This brings weighty responsibilities as well as great opportunities. At this turning point, we must reflect--What is the mission of university? What is the mission of young people?

千百年来，教育的本质从未改变。从孔子杏坛讲学、因材施教，到苏格拉底潜心思辨、启迪人心，古今中外的教育初心，始终是涵养灵魂、塑造人格、培养独立思考的全面发展的人。无论社会如何变迁，技术如何进步，大学始终是人类的精神高地，是探究科学前沿的殿堂，是名师荟萃的重镇，是实现梦想的沃土。大学的价值在于扶植学术、激励创新、铸造精品、传播知识，引领你们学以成人、学以明理、学以报国。纵观人类发展史，每一次技术革命，都是重塑人类发展范式，推动人类文明跃迁的宝贵契机。技术越是迅猛更迭，大学的价值就愈发珍贵，教育的力量就越不可替代。

The core of education has stayed constant for millennia. From Confucius’ personalized teaching to Socrates’ thought-provoking dialogues, educators across cultures aim to nurture sound souls, solid character and wellrounded, independent minded individuals. Amid social and technological shifts, universities remain a spiritual beacon, a hub for frontier research, a gathering place for scholars where they turn dreams into reality. They advance scholarship, fuel innovation, pursue excellence and spread knowledge, guiding you to grow into responsible, wise and patriotic citizens. Every technological revolution reshapes human society and lifts civilizations. As technology accelerates, the value of universities and the power of education become increasingly irreplaceable.

你们所选择的吉林外国语大学正是如此。三十余年栉风沐雨、守正创新，学校始终坚持公益性办学、始终坚守走非营利性办学道路的初心，践行“一切为了学生成人、成才、成功”的办学理念和“以学生为中心，办最负责任教育”的教育理念，用扎实的办学成效回答“大学何为”的时代命题，在全国民办高校中创造了多个第一或唯一，相继入选吉林省特色高水平应用型大学A类建设单位、博士学位授予单位A+立项建设高校，连续七年位居软科中国民办大学排行榜第一。去年，教育部本科教育教学审核评估专家组用“五个有”“六大亮点”“七个更加”盛赞我校，无愧是“全国民办高校的一面旗帜”。这些成绩的取得，凝结着一代代吉外人的拼搏与奋斗，也赋予了我们面向未来、开启新征程的坚实保障。

This is precisely the mission of Jilin International Studies University. For over thirty years, we have upheld non-profit, public-oriented education. Guided by our philosophies--“Everything for students’ growth, achievement and success” and “Student centered, responsible education”--we deliver real-world results. Among China’s private universities, we hold multiple pioneering achievements: Category-A high-level application-oriented university in Jilin Province, A+ candidate for doctoraldegree authorization, and seven consecutive years as No.1 on the Shanghai Ranking for private Chinese universities. Last year, the MOE review panel commended our strengths and innovations, calling us “a benchmark for private higher education in China”. These achievements stem from JISU people’s dedication and lay a solid foundation for our future.

大学的精神与文化是一所学校的灵魂。在砥砺奋进、攻坚克难的办学实践中，学校凝练形成了“会通中外、砺志敦材”的校训和“公益、创业、治学、桥梁”的吉外精神。这既是学校薪火赓续的精神内核，更是同学们逐梦前行的力量源泉。面向2035年，学校确立了建成精品、非营利、应用型、国际化、特色鲜明的高水平外国语大学的奋斗目标，这是一份需要全体吉外人共同绘就的奋进答卷。

Culture and spirit form a university’s soul. Through years of growth and challenges, we have established our motto: Mastering Chinese and Global Wisdom; Cultivating Aspiration and Talent, together with the JISU Spirit: Public spirit, Enterprise, Scholarly Rigour, Bridge building. These enduring values will power your pursuit of dreams. By 2035, we aim to build a distinguished non-profit, application oriented and international focused international studies university--a shared goal for our whole community.

同学们，如果把大学比作一次旅行，作为校长，我想送给你们四个方向，与你们共勉。

If university is a journey, I would like to share four guiding expectations for you.

第一，向下扎根，以公益精神厚植家国情怀。习近平总书记强调，青年的理想信念关乎国家未来。青年理想远大、信念坚定，是一个国家、一个民族无坚不摧的前进动力。坚定的理想信念，首要体现为真挚的爱国情怀，这是青年“成人”的第一要义，也是第一大德。吉外精神中的公益精神，其价值底色是深厚的家国情怀，要求你们志存高远、服务国家、服务社会，在忘我奉献中体悟国家需求与人生价值的同频共振。

First, take root deeply; foster patriotism through public-spirited values. General Secretary Xi Jinping points out that young people’s ideals shape our nation’s future. Ambitious and committed youth drive national progress. True conviction starts with sincere patriotism, the cornerstone of young people’s moral character. Rooted in love for our country, our publicspirited spirit encourages you to aim high, serve the nation and society, and align personal value with national needs through self-devotion.

同学们，无论任何时候，坚持正确而有意义的选择，尤为可贵。世界将走向何方，答案就蕴藏在你们每一次选择、每一步行动之中。希望你们始终把理想信念作为人生立身之“根”，把家国情怀作为青春成长之“魂”，将个人理想、人生追求、职业规划深度融入强国建设、民族复兴的宏伟事业。

Meaningful choices count more than ever. The world’s future lies in your decisions and actions. Let ideals anchor your life and patriotism inspire your youth. Integrate your aspirations and career plans into China’s national rejuvenation.

同学们，向下扎根，既要扎牢家国之根，也要筑牢品格之基。在大学里，你们将接触到各种各样的思想和价值观，面对多元价值观念的碰撞，尤其考验自身的定力与品行。更要看到，比学识增长更重要的是守住内心的秩序，比能力提升更根本的是淬炼正直、善良、诚信、弘毅的品格。希望大家将立德作为大学的必修课，真正做到以德立身、以德立学、以德立业，矢志争做明德笃行、强能报国的时代新人！

Rooting also means building strong personal character. You will encounter diverse ideas at university, which will test your self discipline and integrity. Inner balance matters more than knowledge; integrity, kindness, honesty and perseverance matter more than competence. Make moral integrity your core lesson. Build your character, scholarship and career on ethics, and strive to be capable, principled young contributors to our country.

第二，向内求真，以治学精神锻造过硬本领。“立身百行，以学为基”。同学们，大学是人生崭新的起点，学生要以学为本。古人云：“业精于勤，荒于嬉；行成于思，毁于随”。学习贵在勤、重在思、难在恒。吉外精神中的治学精神，核心就是严细科学、务实求精。希望同学们把学习当作一种责任、一种终身追求。一个人读过的书，走过的路，养成的思维，最终都能化作做人的底气、做事的能力。希望你们深耕专业，厚实学识，练就扎实的过硬本领。你们今天的勤奋决定明天的从容，今天的积累成就未来的担当。

Second, pursue inner truth and build solid capabilities through rigorous scholarship. Learning underpins every career. University represents a brand-new starting point, where academic pursuit shall always be your priority. As an ancient maxim goes, “Excellence comes from diligence, and success stems from reflection.” Effective learning requires diligence, critical thinking and consistent persistence. Our scholarly spirit emphasizes precision, pragmatism and the relentless pursuit of excellence. Treat learning as a lifelong responsibility. The books you read, the experiences you gain, and the thinking you develop shape your confidence and competence. Delve deep into your majors to build solid professional expertise. Your dedication today will fully prepare you for future responsibilities.

当下，人工智能技术正深刻改变教育形态，“为什么学、学什么、怎么学”这一课题，比以往任何时候都更值得我们深思，也对大家的综合素养与专业能力提出了更高标准、更高要求。对同学们而言，你们真正的核心竞争力，不只是要掌握多少专业知识，更要具备理性判断、独立思辨与终身学习的能力。希望你们要善用人工智能作为学习的助手和工具，但绝不能让算法代替思考，绝不能让搜索代替钻研，不做被动的知识搬运工，争当主动的问题提出者、思想建构者、真理探索者。希望同学们在博览群书中悟真谛，在躬身实践中求真知，在知行合一中长才干，努力成长为敢创新、有本领、担大任的栋梁之材！

As AI is reshaping education, we need to rethink why, what and how we learn. Your real competitive advantage lies not only in knowledge, but in critical judgement, independent thinking and lifelong-learning skills. Use AI as a learning tool, but never replace reasoning with algorithms or deep inquiry with online searches. Do not merely absorb knowledge. Raise questions, form ideas and seek truth. Learn widely, practise hands-on, combine knowledge with action, and grow into innovative, high calibre talents ready for major missions.

第三，向外架桥，以桥梁精神拓展国际视野。相知无远近，万里尚为邻。同学们，吉外精神中的桥梁精神，就是希望你们以语言为桥、以文化为媒，在连接中国与世界的进程中勇担国家使命。当今世界百年变局加速演进，不同文明之间的相互影响从未如此深刻。越是置身这样的时代背景，越是需要一大批“会语言、通国家、精领域”高素质、高层次的外语外事人才，使你们成为中华儿女成才走向世界之桥梁、中外文化合璧之桥梁。

Third, broaden global horizons with our bridge building spirit. True friendship transcends distance. This spirit urges you to employ language as your bridge and culture as your medium, so you may step up to shoulder national missions connecting China and the world. As profound global shifts unfold at an accelerated pace, civilizations interact with one another more deeply than ever before. This era calls for a great number of high-calibre talents, namely people with linguistic proficiency, cross-cultural insights and specialized expertise, who will serve as bridges for Chinese talent going global and for cultural integration between China and the rest of the world.

同学们，向外架桥，既要站稳中国立场，又要练就理解世界、沟通世界的本领。学校打造的地球村（Global Village），就是希望给大家一个近距离了解世界的窗口，在真实的多元文化场景中，锤炼语言综合运用能力、跨文化交际能力、实践创新能力和适应发展能力。同学们，你们学习外语，不只是掌握对外沟通的本领，更要读懂一个国家、一个区域、一个民族的历史文化与文明底蕴，既要以开放包容之心尊重文明的多样性，又要以清醒自信之心坚守中华文化根脉，在融通中外的过程中，提升全球胜任力。希望你们牢记学校“学好外国语、做好中国人、讲好中国故事”的育人理念，立志成为懂中国、知世界、善传播的文化使者，在文明互鉴的广阔舞台上，书写无愧于家国的青春华章！

Bridge-building requires firm Chinese grounding plus global communication skills. Our campus Global Village exposes you to real-world multicultural settings to sharpen your language, cross-cultural communication, innovation and adaptability. Learning foreign languages means more than communication; it involves understanding other peoples’ history and heritage. Respect civilizational diversity with an open mind while staying rooted in Chinese culture, and build your global competence. Keep our educational tenet in mind: Master foreign languages, be proud Chinese citizens, and tell China’s stories well. Strive to be cultural envoys and write inspiring youth chapters for our motherland through cross cultural exchange.

第四，向前创造，以创业精神践行责任担当。惟创新者进，惟创业者强，惟奋斗者胜。同学们，扎根是根基，求真是头脑，架桥是格局，创造是行动。吉外的创业精神就是一种敢闯敢试、务实笃行、迎难而上、主动作为的精神品质，是立足专业所长，把知识转化为解决实际问题的能力。作为新时代青年，大家既要创新突破，也要脚踏实地；既要胸怀理想，也要扎根现实。希望同学们把创业精神融入未来的每一份选择，以实干成就价值，以担当回报时代。

Fourth, forge ahead to create and honour your commitment with an enterprising spirit. Innovation drives progress, initiative builds strength, and perseverance delivers success. Rooting lays your foundation; truthseeking sharpens your mind; bridgebuilding expands your vision; creation turns ideas into action. JISU’s enterprising spirit means bold trial, pragmatic action, courage amid hardship and proactive engagement. It empowers you to translate expertise into practical solutions.As young people of the new era, innovate while staying grounded; pursue dreams while facing reality. Let this spirit guide your choices. Create value through solid work and rise to the call of our times.

同学们，通往梦想的道路从无捷径可言。只有拼出来的成功，没有等出来的辉煌。无论是人生目标的实现，还是伟大事业的铸就，都离不开持之以恒的耕耘、一步一个脚印永不停歇的奋斗。真正的成长与担当，不仅体现为顺境中的锐意进取，更彰显于逆境中的坚韧不拔，正所谓“宝剑锋从磨砺出，梅花香自苦寒来”。同学们，成功的本质，是久久为功的终身成长。要知道，人生不是超越他人，而是不断超越自我。希望你们恪守“致远、务实、求精”的校风，秉持“天下大事必从细而做”，在点滴处积蓄力量，在平凡处追求卓越，争做自强不息、矢志不渝的追梦人！

Dreams have no shortcuts. Success stems from steady commitment, not idle waiting. True maturity reveals itself not merely in good times, but in resilience through adversity. At its core, success is lifelong self-improvement. Life’s journey is about surpassing your former self, not outshining others. Uphold our university ethos: Vision, Pragmatism, Excellence. Great accomplishments are built from small details. Nurture strength incrementally, strive for excellence in daily moments, and remain steadfast in chasing your dreams.

同学们，征途漫漫，唯有奋斗；行而不辍，未来可期。未来几年，我和老师们会与你们生活在同一个校园。我们会见证你们的进步，也愿意倾听你们的困惑；我们会尽力为你们创造机会，也期待从你们身上学习新的眼光和勇气。教育从来不是单向的抵达，而是师生彼此照亮、共同成长。

Dear students, the road ahead demands persistent striving. As you spend the coming years on campus, faculty and I will walk alongside you. We will witness your growth and hear your doubts; we will strive to open doors of opportunity for you, and we look forward to gaining new outlooks and courage from you in return. Education is never a one-way delivery of knowledge. It is a mutual illumination, where teachers and students grow together.

今天，你们从四面八方来到吉外；几年之后，希望你们从吉外出发，成为一座座连接世界的桥梁——连接中国与世界，连接知识与行动，连接个人理想与时代需要，也连接今天的自己与更美好的未来。希望你们把大学的每一天都变成向着理想拔节生长的旅程。未来，无论走到哪里，愿你们心中有祖国、眼里有世界、肩上有责任、脚下有行动，不负时代、不负韶华、勇毅前行！

Today you arrive at JISU from all corners of our nation. Four years on, I hope you will set out from here to become communicators: linking China with the world, knowledge with practice, personal aspirations with the demands of our times, and your present self with a brighter future. May every day of these four years nurture steady growth toward your ideals. Wherever life takes you, hold your homeland in your heart, keep the world in view, bear your responsibilities and act with resolve to live up to our era and your youth.
