Dear students, teachers, and parents!
大家上午好！
Good morning!
仲夏时节，万物争荣。今天，在这个承载着历史荣光与青春梦想的六月，我们满怀着喜悦与憧憬，隆重举行2025届毕业典礼暨学位授予仪式，共同见证3558名学子圆满完成学业的庄严时刻。在此，我代表学校，向2025届全体毕业生致以最热烈的祝贺！向辛勤培育你们的老师、默默支持你们的家人，致以最诚挚的感谢！
In midsummer, when all living things flourish, we gather today in this June, carrying honors and dreams. Filled with joy and anticipation, we solemnly hold the 2025 Commencement and Degree Conferring Ceremony to witness together the solemn moment when 3558 students successfully complete their studies. On behalf of the university, I’d like to extend my warmest congratulations to all of you! I also offer my sincerest gratitude to your dedicated teachers and to your families, who have supported you silently along the way.
同学们，看到你们身穿学位服，意气风发、未来可期的样子，让我不禁想起四年前开学典礼的情景。那时的你们还略显青涩，如今已成长为自信从容的吉外人。更让我倍感欣慰的是，在大学期间，你们与祖国共奋进，与学校同发展，用实际行动诠释着“会通中外，砺志敦材”的校训精神：你们中有511名党员在乡村振兴、科技创新的岗位上勇担先锋，518名同学在“华政杯”全国法律翻译大赛等专业竞赛中摘金夺银，220名学子深入“一带一路”沿线国家展现中国形象；更有13名学子选择奔赴西部基层建功立业……这些看似平凡的点滴，实则是学校“一切为了学生成人、成才、成功”的办学理念和“以学生为中心，办最负责任教育”的教育理念的最好呈现。正是这样的精神传承，才让吉外实现了一个又一个跨越，发展成为连续六年稳居软科中国民办大学排行榜第一，获评全国文明校园，跻身吉林省博士学位授予单位A+建设行列的外国语大学。
Dear students,
Seeing you adorned in academic gowns, faces aglow with confidence and hope, I am carried back to that September morning four years ago, when you first stepped onto this campus--eyes bright, hearts a little shy, as the story of your youth was about to unfold. Today, you stand transformed: poised and self-assured, true bearers of the JISU spirit. What fills me with deepest pride is not only how you have grown, but how you have journeyed, stride for stride, with our nation and our university, breathing life into our motto--“Global Vision with Chinese Spirit; Ambition Forged with True Talent.” Among you, 511 Party members have ventured to the frontlines of rural rejuvenation and technological progress; 518 have claimed victory in the “ECUPL Cup National Legal Translation Competition” and other national professional contests; 220 have worked in countries along the Belt and Road, letting the world see the brightness of your generation; and 13 have chosen to forge their futures in the vastness of the western frontier. Such days and deeds, though they may seem common, are--when woven together--the living testament to our vow: to place students at the heart, and to craft an education of the utmost integrity. It is this legacy, passed from hand to hand, that has lifted JISU to ever-greater heights: six years crowned atop national private university rankings, recognized as a National Civilized Campus, recognized as an A+ institution among doctoral degree-granting universities in Jilin Province--a university where languages are wings, and ambition knows no border.
去年，省委书记黄强同志来校调研并给予学校“吉林有这样一所好学校，是吉林的骄傲和自豪”的高度评价。就在上周，教育部部长怀进鹏同志也莅临学校调研视察，这是对学校事业发展的充分肯定和巨大鼓舞。学校30年的辉煌历程，是吉外一届又一届学子接续奋斗绘就的，是全体师生勠力同心创造的。尤其是近年来，你们以青春之力续写了吉外最动人的绚丽篇章；这些奋斗的足迹，终将成为学校精神谱系里最珍贵的记忆。
Last year, CPC Provincial Party Secretary Huang Qiang, in his inspection to JISU, offered our university the highest praise, “To have such an outstanding university in Jilin is the pride and joy of our province.” Just last week, Minister of Education Huai Jinpeng visited our campus to provide guidance and support--a resounding affirmation of our school’s mission and an immense source of encouragement for all of us. The university’s thirty-year glorious journey has been forged, generation after generation, by JISU students carrying the torch forward, and created hand in hand by all members of our academic community. In recent years especially, it is you who have used the power of youth to write the most splendid chapters in our story; these footprints of striving and perseverance will forever become the most precious memories of our school.
同学们，今年“五四”青年节，习近平总书记殷切嘱托广大青年，到祖国和人民最需要的地方发光发热，为中国式现代化建设贡献青春力量。这正是吉外学子所应肩负的使命和前进的方向。同学们要与强国建设、民族复兴的宏伟蓝图同频共振，在时代的答卷上留下浓墨重彩的印记。值此母校三十周年华诞的历史时刻，你们在此开启人生新篇章，这既是青春的盛大启航，更是精神火种的赓续传递。“三十而立”，我理解，这是精神的屹立，是责任的担当，更是生命的精神坐标。“路漫漫其修远兮，吾将上下而求索”，这句穿越两千多年的诘问，恰是当代青年应有的精神风貌。值此新征程开启之际，作为校长、老师，我想与你们分享三点希望：
Dear students,
This year, on Youth Day, General Secretary Xi Jinping earnestly encouraged young people to “shine wherever the motherland and the people need you most, dedicating your youthful strength to the cause of Chinese modernization.” This is the calling and direction for the new generation of JISU graduates: to walk in step with the grand blueprint of national renewal, and to leave vivid strokes on our era. At this historic moment, as JISU celebrates its thirtieth anniversary, you are poised to embark on new journeys in life. This is not only the grand voyage of your youth, but also the passing of the torch--an unbroken flame of spirit and responsibility. “At thirty, one stands,” says Confucius; for me, this is the standing of the spirit, the assumption of responsibility, and the anchoring of one’s purpose in life. “The road ahead will be long and arduous; I shall search above and below.” Across two millennia, Qu Yuan’s words still echo as the spirit that should dwell within every young heart today. As you set forth on this new journey, as your president and your teacher, I wish to share with you three expectations:
一是，要以爱国为本，校准人生航标。“天下之本在国，国之本在家，家之本在身。”爱国是中华民族团结奋斗、自强不息的精神纽带，更是深植于我们血脉的文化基因。同学们，今天，你们即将毕业。今后，无论你们身处任何行业、任何岗位、任何境遇，都要胸怀天下，保持爱国情怀。胸怀天下不是抽象的，爱国更不是简单的一句口号。热爱祖国，就是要始终以国家民族利益为重，在大是大非问题上站稳立场，关心国家大事，在每一个岗位上努力做出应有的贡献。正所谓“天下兴亡，匹夫有责”。当前，世界进入新的动荡变革期，国际秩序面临深刻调整，中国在全球治理中发挥着越来越重要的作用。
First, let patriotism be the compass that guides your voyage. As the ancient saying goes: “The foundation of the world lies in the nation, the nation’s foundation lies in the family, and the family’s foundation lies in the self.” Patriotism is the spirit that binds us, the heritage coursing through our veins--a silent current that shapes resilience and hope. Now, as you stand at the helm of graduation, remember: Wherever your journey carries you--no matter the field, the path, or the trials--let a love for your homeland steady your heart. True patriotism is not mere proclamation. It is choosing the nation’s destiny as your own north star, standing resolute in times of trial, caring for the fate of our land, and inscribing your mark--however humble--on its unfolding story. As Gu Yanwu reminds us, “The rise and fall of all under heaven is the charge of every soul.” In this age of shifting tides, with the world in flux and the international order remade, let China’s growing voice be the wind that fills your sails.
同学们，当全球化浪潮与文明对话交织成时代的经纬，你们既是中华文明的传承者，更是人类命运共同体的筑梦人。请永远铭记：“学好外国语”是你们打开世界的钥匙，“做好中国人”是你们的立身之本，“讲好中国故事”是时代赋予你们的神圣使命，这是独属于吉外人的家国情怀和使命责任。希望同学们紧扣时代脉搏，志存高远、奋发有为，携手构建话语新体系，让世界听见新时代中国青年的铿锵回响！
As the tides of globalization and the dialogue among civilizations weave the fabric of our age, you are both the torchbearers of Chinese heritage and the architects of a shared human destiny. Always remember: Learning foreign languages is the key that unlocks the world, Being true to your Chinese roots is the grounding strength of your soul, Telling China’s story well is the sacred charge of your time--this is the calling unique to JISU. May you move in rhythm with the heartbeat of this era, set your sights on distant horizons, strive with purpose, and, hand in hand, shape a new discourse for these times--that the steadfast voices of China’s youth may resonate across the globe.
二是，要致知在躬行，锻造核心能力。习近平总书记指出，人工智能是年轻的事业，也是年轻人的事业。在知识更新迭代加速的今天，Deepseek、ChatGPT等新技术正重塑教育生态与创新范式，对人才的知识结构、能力素养等方面提出了前所未有的挑战。在此，我要特别强调的是，无论科技如何日新月异，无论生活方式如何调整，越在变化之中，你们越要保持定力。希望你们要坚定相信人类的智慧，更要主动善用人工智能，让AI技术持续赋能自己的学习、工作和生活。
Second, let knowledge be embodied in action, forging your core strengths. President Xi Jinping has noted that AI is both a young enterprise and an enterprise for the young. In an age where knowledge evolves at breathtaking speed, emerging technologies like DeepSeek and ChatGPT are reshaping education and innovation, placing unprecedented demands on talent and core competencies. At such a time, I wish to stress: No matter how swiftly technology advances or how our ways of living change, it is precisely in the face of change that we must remain steadfast. In the era of AI, the true hard currency is your capacity to learn, and the essence of learning lies in sustained, daily effort. Those days of diligent pursuit will become the stepping stones of progress, leading to ever broader horizons of growth. This is why you must have faith in the wisdom of humanity, while also embracing AI--allowing technology to continually empower your learning, your work, and your life.
同学们，“人才有高下，知物由学”。毕业不是终点，而是学习的新起点。希望你们做好再出发的准备，培养终身学习的好习惯，让孜孜以求的时光，化作你们进步的阶梯，通向更广阔的成长天地。希望你们永远保持探索的热情，善于思考，勇于创新，坚持知行合一、学以致用，在实践熔炉中增长才干，在回应时代需求中升华境界，用真才实学服务国家，以创新智慧贡献社会，为社会主义现代化国家建设注入青春力量！
“Though talent differs in degree, all knowledge is gained through learning.” Graduation marks not an end, but the first step upon a new path of discovery--a law of both personal growth and the call of the age. “From words on a page, knowledge is shallow; only by walking the road can truth be known.” May you be ever ready to set forth once more, keep alive your hunger to explore and your longing to learn. Be steadfast in thought, brave in pursuit, hold fast to unity of knowing and doing, seek truth by close inquiry, bring learning to real purpose. Let your wisdom be tempered in the forge of experience, your vision rise in answer to the times. With true learning and real talent, serve the land; with creative spirit, give back to the world--and let youthful vigor breathe new life into the building of a modern China.
三是，要奋斗向未来，淬炼使命担当。面对“新时代青年能否扛起复兴重任”的时代之问，答案唯有奋斗——以奉献和担当扎根祖国大地，以坚韧与笃行实现人生价值。同学们，奋斗第一位的就是要崇德修身。“非淡泊无以明志，非宁静无以致远”，这就要求你们坚守做人的底线，恪守社会公德、职业道德和个人品德，涵养诚实、正直、宽容、忠诚的优秀品质。只有这样，你们才能在人生道路上走得更正、走得更远！同学们，每一次奋斗，都是内心的修行，更是心灵的磨炼。你们未来的发展不一定都是一帆风顺的。而前行的道路上最大的阻碍，往往不是客观的困难和挑战，而是你们内心的信念和直面问题的勇气是否坚定。同学们要坚信，这些磨砺都是生活的馈赠，绝不能轻言放弃。
Third, forge ahead with resolve--temper your sense of mission in the fires of striving. When our times ask, “Can Generation Z shoulder the task of renewal?” the answer lies in striving itself--root your worth in devotion and responsibility, let purpose and practice shine through your journey. Above all, cultivate virtue and character. “Without serenity, purpose is lost; without tranquility, distance cannot be traveled.” Hold fast to principle--honor public, professional, and personal virtue, nurture honesty, integrity, tolerance, and loyalty. Only this way can your path be upright and far-reaching. Each act of striving is an inner pilgrimage, a forging of the spirit. Your life will not be smooth sail. The greatest obstacles you will meet are seldom in the world, but within--in belief, in courage to confront. “As heaven moves in strength, so the noble grow by unceasing self-renewal.” Trust that every trial is life’s true gift. Never waver. Never yield to weariness. Let striving shape you for the future.
你们更要牢记：艰难困苦，玉汝于成，真正的强者永远在磨砺中升华。同学们，奋斗就要脚踏实地，奋斗不在于惊天动地的壮举，而在于平凡精神的坚守，你们要通过做好每一件小事、完成好每一项任务、履行好每一项职责来彰显。纵观古今，凡有成就的人，无不起于扎根一线、勤奋工作，踏实前行、百折不挠。你们正值青春、怀揣梦想，要坚持“天下大事必从细而做”，简单做人，踏实做事，成长的根基才能更加坚实。同学们，“天行健，君子以自强不息”。要知道，付出就有收获，奋斗就有未来。成功从来没有标准模板，只属于坚持不懈的人。在我看来，真正的成功，在于矢志不渝地追求卓越，努力成就独一无二的自己，用心书写属于你们充满无限可能的精彩人生！
Remember always: adversity refines like jade; hardship perfects the spirit. True strength is forged in ceaseless tempering, and struggle must find its ground--not in earth-shaking feats, but in the steadfast spirit revealed through humble deeds. Greatness is shaped by tending to each small task with care and by fulfilling every duty with devotion. Throughout the ages, all who achieved have begun at the roots, toiling at the front lines, advancing step by steady step, undaunted by hardship. Now, in the bloom of youth, hold fast to the wisdom that all grand endeavors begin with small acts. Live simply and work earnestly--thus will you set deep the roots of your becoming. In giving, you reap; in striving, you forge the future. Success wears no single face and fits no rigid mold--it belongs only to those who persist. To me, true success lies not in fixed destinies, but in the unwavering pursuit of excellence, in the courage to craft a path all your own, and to inscribe upon the scroll of life your own most brilliant story.

I look forward to meeting you again this golden autumn, in September’s celebration-- to renew the bonds between teachers and students and embrace a future filled with promise.
